Stylishly contemporary revisions

After skipping the 2021 model year for pretty obvious and understandable reasons, a new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is introduced for the 2022 model year. Mitsubishi’s futuristic compact crossover SUV was already one of the most modern and recognizable designs in its class but new front and rear fascias and a sleeker-looking rear liftgate instead of the previous split-rear window design have taken it to another level for 2022. The infotainment system also benefits from a new 8.0-inch touchscreen and the touchpad controller has been replaced with manual volume and tuning knobs for improved functionality.

Four goes into eight

There are four different trim levels in the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross lineup but it can look like eight in brochures and online. This is because all four trim levels are standard front-wheel drive but all-wheel drive is available as an option for every model. The four basic trim levels are the entry-level ES, the LE, SE, and SEL, but you will also see the available models described as ES 1.5T 2WD, ES 1.5T S-AWC, LE 1.5T 2WD, LE 1.5T S-AWC, SE 1.5T 2WD, SE 1.5T S-AWC, SEL 1.5T 2WD and SEL 1.5T S-AWC. In terms of standard features, 2WD and S-AWC versions of each trim level are identical apart from the drivetrain.

A comfortable performer

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross powertrain and performance

The whole ethos surrounding the performance of the 2022 Eclipse Cross appears to be geared towards ensuring the most enjoyable and comfortable ride possible from this compact Mitsubishi SUV. The engine powering all versions of the 2022 model is the familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four that develops 152 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The power is then sent to the front or all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that also makes a big contribution to the smooth, efficient, and comfortable characteristics of the Eclipse Cross.

Generously equipped at all levels

Entry-level ES models come with a very generous list of standard features and equipment that includes Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a rearview camera, cruise control, automatic climate control, 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a full set of power features. All that also comes backed up by an excellent 5-year/60,000-mile warranty for ultimate peace of mind.

LE models get an upgrade to an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen system that gets further upgraded to include navigation with SE and SEL versions of the Eclipse Cross. Most of the basic driver-assistance technologies we expect in a vehicle in this class are standard, including the likes of automated emergency braking and lane-departure warning. Plenty of other advanced active safety and driver-assist features are also available but you will have to look at higher trim levels for the most advanced features.
